Queensland Children's Hospital School teachers provide an education service to kindergarten-aged children receiving treatment at the Queensland Children's Hospital or the Mater Children's Private Brisbane Hospital.
QCHS Kindy offers:
- play-based early learning activities for children, delivered by a qualified early childhood teacher
- a learning program which is based on a child's interests, physical and educational needs
- educational support and information for parents or carers about early childhood development
Children can participate in QCHS Kindy if they:
- are receiving treatment at the hospital
- turn four years old by 30 June (or five years, if their entry into school is delayed)
Kindy sessions are:
- offered on school days, from 9:00am to 3:00pm
- held bedside on the ward or in a treatment room
- flexible to accommodate children's medical appointments and the child's capacity to participate, on the given day
- Participation is voluntary and children may opt in and out of the QCHS Kindy program at any time during their hospital stay.
