The Department of Education is
committed to developing and implementing a statewide continuum of educational delivery to ensure that students with chronic
health or complex mental health conditions receive specialised and appropriate
educational support at all stages of their illness.
The
scope of Queensland hospital education extends from the Brisbane campuses to
multiple programs throughout the state. These include for students in general
paediatric wards and students in adolescent mental health units as inpatients or day program students.
Programs
are very diverse in size, available facilities and the length-of-stay of
students, demanding a committed and innovative delivery of the Australian
Curriculum by the staff, who receive operational support from a local school and
curriculum and professional support from the Queensland Children's Hospital
School.
Statewide,
staff remain connected through technologies and other means to meet, share
strategies and resources, and to ensure professional collaboration as
Queensland hospital educators in seeking to provide:
- access to learning
- high quality teaching and
learning
- continuity of learning
- community belonging
- multidisciplinary collaboration.
